The Keys to Conflict Resolution, now in its second edition with a new introduction, mixes fascinating anecdotes with guidance and commentary pointing the way to successful dispute resolution. The reader embarks on a journey through Mr. Kheel's many newsworthy negotiations, as he describes the finer points and hidden stories behind breaking the impasse. Mr. Kheel shows how the voluntary techniques of conflict resolution -- negotiation, mediation, and arbitration -- can produce positive results in all types of disputes.

Ted Kheel's life work is evidence that Alternative Dispute Resolution is far more than a way to avoid the high costs and effort of litigation. It is a timely philosophy promoting peace and harmony in a troubled world.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to promote the voluntary techniques of conflict resolution. In part, the proceeds will support the annual presentation by PERC and the Cornell/PERC Institute of Conflict Resolution (ICD) of the Master Locksmith of Deadlock Bargaining Award to the person or persons who have contributed the most during the preceding year to the furtherance of conflict resolution. The Award carries a stipend of $25,000 to the winner. George Mitchell, who performed miracles in getting the warring parties in Ireland to agree with each other, is the first recipient and received the award on May 29, 2001 at a symposium on mediation in the New York Press Club at 330 West 42nd Street in New York City.
